Sightseeing Guide
The Massachusetts State House has a striking golden dome.
The Massachusetts State House was built in 1798 and has been rebuilt several times since. The gold dome, which is the symbol of the state capitol, has gold leaf. During World War II, it turned black temporarily to avoid bombing, but gold foil was reapplied afterwards.
It's the second stop on the Freedom Trail, and it's also visible from Boston Common, so you can go without hesitation.
