The tower on a small hill in the center of Taketomi Island is the Nagominoto Tower. The Nagominoto Tower was built in 1953 to convey information to the village of Taketomi Island via a megaphone, etc., and although it is as low as 4.5m in height, it has a panoramic view of the village. Since the original purpose is to communicate with the village instead of the observatory, the space at the top of the tower's observatory is quite small, with only one or two people. Also, before climbing, it is quite difficult because it is necessary to climb the stairs with a steep slope without passing space. However, the view from the observatory allows you to see Taketomi Island at 360 degrees, and the houses with red brick roofs that are typical of Okinawa spread all over, and you can see a wonderful view. In 2006, it was designated as a national registered tangible cultural property. However, due to severe deterioration such as deterioration of concrete, climbing to the observatory was prohibited from September 2016. Although there is a repair plan, it is also a registered tangible cultural property of the country, so it cannot be significantly repaired, and it may be difficult to enjoy it as an observatory like before even after the repair. Due to this situation, it is currently recommended to take a picture of the Nagominoto Tower from the bottom of the hill and enjoy sightseeing. |
