Miyaradunchi features a red tiled roof that is very Okinawan. Miyaradunchi is a building that was built in 1819 by Miyara, who was an administrator of Yaeyama, to imitate a samurai residence. It is a very famous story that the Ryukyu Kingdom government at that time issued an order to demolish it five times, but did not obey it, because the administrative officer imitated the mansion of the samurai. However, in 1874 it was once replaced by a thatched roof, but in 1899 it was replaced by a red tiled roof again. Today, the residence of the Ryukyu dynasty samurai is a valuable historic site, and Miyaradunchi is designated as a national important cultural property. It's a facility that makes you feel like you're looking at the roots of Okinawa. |
