Yonaha Bay is a bay on Miyakojima that looks like a cove. Yonaha Bay is the largest tidal flat in Okinawa Prefecture, and is characterized by a shallow water depth of at most 2m. Yonaha Bay is an important wetland because it is a transit point for migratory birds, and in 2012 it was also a registered wetland under the Ramsar Convention. An event called "Sanitsuhama Carnival" is held every year on the beach on the base side of Yonaha Bay, which is called "Sanitsuhama" on Miyakojima, so it's a good idea to visit at the same time. |
