A slightly mysterious stone pillar on Miyakojima is the tax stone. The tax stone was the standard for the Ryukyu dynasty, whose finances were in need due to the invasion of the Satsuma domain, to impose a tax when it was taller than this stone pillar. By the way, the height is 143 cm. Things that are not possible in modern times continued from 1637 to 1903. It is said that it is carefully preserved on Miyakojima in order to pass on this negative heritage to posterity. |
