| Nishi Kagoshima Station has been active as a central station in Kagoshima Prefecture. With the opening of the Kyushu Shinkansen in March 2004, the station name was changed to Kagoshima Chuo Station, and the exterior appearance of the station building was rebuilt and redesigned.
