Azuchi Castle is one of the most famous castles in Japan. The ruins of Azuchi Castle are very famous as a gorgeous castle built by Nobunaga Oda in 1576, 400 years ago, during the Azuchi-Momoyama period. However, three years after completion, the Honnoji Incident occurred and it was burned down, and it was destroyed in just three years. However, today, the remains of stone walls and the castle tower remain, making it a tourist spot. Azuchi Castle is located on Mt. Azuchi at an altitude of about 200m on the shores of Lake Biwa, and you can see Lake Biwa from the castle tower. The castle also has Hideyoshi Hashiba's residence, a three-storied pagoda, and the Kuroganemon Gate, so there are plenty of highlights unique to a large castle. However, since it is a castle built on a mountain, it requires considerable physical strength, so it is recommended to borrow a cane at the entrance. |
