The nationally designated historic site in front of Tsuruoka City Hall is the Chidokan. Jidokan was founded in 1805 by Tadanori, the ninth generation of the Sakai clan, with the aim of rebuilding the Shonai clan, and later became a clan school that produced many talented clan scholars. The educational policy is education that emphasizes independence, and it can be said that the strengths of each individual are utilized and that it has greatly contributed to the culture of Tsuruoka's educational culture to date. There are several historical buildings such as an auditorium and a mausoleum in the precincts, and the auditorium can be entered inside. Once inside, you can get a glimpse of the simple and sturdy life of the samurai at that time, and feel the tense atmosphere. In addition, the exterior is in good condition, the contrast between the green lawn and the color of the building is very beautiful, and the moat-like waterways around the building give a historical feel. |
